Now that the school break is completed, I am able to update you on what’s going on with the building works.
Starting with the good news, the external works to our Admin, Junior block and Library buildings are all but completed. The new carpet and vinyl has been laid in the One/Two building. Please take a moment to have a look. It is looking good.
The not so good – Throughout the recent break, there has been ongoing communication between the Architect, the builders, DEECD and myself about the works. As well as discovering termites throughout the whole admin flooring (therefore needing total replacement), there was a power upgrade which caused a power stoppage for the workers, removalists had to remove (and then put back) all furniture from the Year One/Two and Admin buildings and there were broken bits of asbestos discovered under the floorboards. While these posed no danger, they had to be removed last week which, in turn, slowed down the other tasks. Most stumps also need replacing and this is happening over this next two weeks. There is also an enormous amount of wiring under the floor and the builders are trying to identify each cables purpose.
As a result of these works, the reception/office is temporarily re-located into the staff building nearest the school sign and car park entrance. The Three/Four and the Prep buildings are holding some of the furniture and equipment from the admin block until the works are complete.
